A lot of parents might make the common mistake in yelling at their children when they do something wrong or don’t listen. The fact is, if you do this, you are only going to be teaching them how to disrespect. Another thing that you will want to do is make sure that you are using some kind of positive reinforcement. By praising the respect when it is given, you should be able to achieve consistency with it. Children will want to be rewarded. Therefore, if you are able to effectively reward them for being respectful and praise such moments, you will be able to reinforce the behavior so that they do it more often.
4. Correct Their Mistakes.
Another important thing that you should do is make sure that you are correcting their mistakes if they happen to make them. It is important to be strong when you are teaching respect. However, you also want to be as respectful as possible while you are working to correct the behavior.
5. Acknowledge It.
It is important to acknowledge the disrespect when it occurs. Never let the disrespectful behavior go unnoticed. You need to consistently correct their behavior in a respectful manor in order to get them to realize that it is not acceptable. Also, you should work to acknowledge whenever the desired behavior is displayed as well.

Another tip that you are going to want to implement is to consistently remind your children of their good decisions and actions. You will want to be sure that they are fully aware of the behavior and the praise and/or punishment that ensued. By doing this, it will help them understand what happens when they are respectful and disrespectful.
In the end, teaching your children respect is all about displaying the same respect back to them. While it might be tempting to simply yell at your kids every time they do something wrong, it is not the way to demonstrate respect and it is certainly not the best way to get it back.
